Job Summary:

This role will primarily be on the Publix Remodel Team in various locations in Tennessee. Superintendents must be capable of leading Benning’s Commercial Construction projects in the field and providing overall direction to all those on the work site. Superintendents must be capable of performing all their duties, responsibilities and functions individually or with the assistance from Assistant Superintendents and Project Managers.

The Superintendent is responsible for driving the project forward from start to finish on time and within the budget. You must be able to develop good relationship with the subcontractors who partner with Benning to produce quality work, and to train tomorrow’s construction leaders. You need to be a problem-solver, able to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment.

What We Need From You:

  • 5+ years of commercial construction industry experience overseeing new construction projects/trades with value of $8M or more
  • Experience in Commercial Construction working for a General Contractor
  • Experience building at least one ground up grocery store (Publix, Kroger, Aldi, Lidl, Walmart Supercenter, Target, Costco, etc.)
  • Experience remodeling and/or renovating grocery stores.
  • Advanced understanding and experience with complex site work
  • Conduct a site inspection prior to the start of the project as well as on a daily basis once construction is underway.
  • Hold weekly O/A/C and Subcontractor/Vendor meetings to plan the and coordinate the job.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Southeast (AL, FL, GA, NC, SC, TN)
  • Ability to read and understand how the plans, specifications and general and special conditions affect the overall success of the project
  • Plan and coordinate building inspectors and quality control inspectors at critical phases and obtain approvals from Owner, Architects, Engineers, Independent Testing Agencies and Governmental Inspectors.
  • Maintain construction schedules and perform regular updates
  • Coordination of jobsite logistics
  • Organization and an eye for detail throughout the entire project
  • Effective communication with the project team, providing and receiving feedback in a manner that fosters success
  • Set up project safety requirements and schedule Tool Box Talks
  • A safe, secure and healthy work environment by enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
  • Coordination of subcontractor work scopes and scheduling
  • The development of Assistant Superintendents and Foremen to grow into future Superintendents
  • Professional representation of Benning
  • A proactive attitude

Essential Job Conditions:

  • Full-time position with work to be performed on the construction site in the field; remote work is not possible for the duties associated with this position, nor is part-time work.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, rain, dust or other environmental hazards (bugs, pollen, etc.).
  • Regular standing and walking on uneven terrain for long periods, lifting, climbing, bending or carrying.
