Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Policy & Government Affairs, the Director of Policy will serve as the policy backbone of the organizations goal to advance philanthropic freedom in all 50 states and at the federal level. The Director will develop and execute top-notch, mission-aligned policy and research work in support of philanthropic freedom and will communicate the Roundtables policy agenda persuasively and effectively with federal and state policymakers, the media, and the philanthropic community.

The Director will work from the Roundtables Washington, DC office. Philanthropy Roundtable will also consider exceptional candidates who want to work from a virtual office. Virtual candidates will need to visit the Washington, DC office at least quarterly. The projected salary range is $115,000-$125,000, contingent upon the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute a robust policy and research plan to promote philanthropic freedom, including white papers, op-eds, blog posts, talking points, and other collateral
  • Identify, recruit, and collaborate with academics, policy experts, and key stakeholders in the philanthropic community to write and speak in support of the Roundtables policy agenda
  • Author and/or commission original policy and research content
  • Provide policy analysis on legislation
  • Educate federal and state policymakers on philanthropic freedom through legislative testimony, meetings with elected officials, and other outreach
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the Roundtable both with the media and at conferences and events

Requirements

  • Seven or more years of professional experience in public policy, research, or advocacy work
  • Demonstrable experience advancing policy in the free-market/liberty/conservative public policy space
  • Endorses and is motivated by the guiding principles, mission, and vision of the Roundtable
  • Proven ability to grasp complex ideas, making them easy to understand, and communicating them to elected officials and other high-value stakeholders
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Highly organized, with an ability to manage the details of multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • High standard of honesty and strong ethical standards while protecting confidential information
  • Communicates and collaborates well with internal and external partners
  • Versatility to be both an entrepreneurial self-starter who takes initiative and a collaborative team player focused on achieving results
  • Bachelors degree
  • Strong computer skills, excellent command of MS Office, Outlook, Teams, and Zoom; experience with a CRM database (Microsoft D365, Salesforce, Raisers Edge, etc.) is a plus

Travel

Up to 30 percent of time during legislative sessions or at other critical months of the policymaking process. All travel will be domestic.
