Job Description

The Role:

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager Is responsible for overseeing all aspects of EHS programs within the manufacturing operations and commissioning of electrical products at customer project sites. This role ensures that the company maintains compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and promotes a culture of safety across all teams. The EHS Manager will develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS policies and procedures while working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to reduce workplace hazards, prevent incidents, and manage environmental impact.

In addition, the EHS Manager will play a critical role in supporting the company's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, aligning EHS strategies with broader corporate sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Leadership
  • Develop and lead EHS programs for both manufacturing and on-site commissioning environments to ensure the safety of employees, contractors, and customers.
  • Promote a safety culture focused on proactive risk identification, hazard prevention, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to EHS teams, safety officers, and site safety coordinators.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and safety drills at both manufacturing facilities and customer project sites.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Maintain and update EHS policies to reflect regulatory changes, industry best practices, and company needs.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Coordinate and lead incident reporting and root cause analysis, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and documented.
Environmental Stewardship
  • Oversee environmental compliance, including hazardous waste management, air and water quality standards, and spill prevention/control.
  • Develop strategies to reduce the company's environmental footprint, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Manage permits, licenses, and environmental documentation required for both the manufacturing facility and customer sites.
On-site Commissioning Safety
  • Develop specific safety protocols for field teams performing electrical commissioning work at customer project sites, focusing on lockout/tagout, arc flash, electrical hazards, and other industry-specific risks.
  • Ensure that all field teams are equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and trained in safe work practices.
  • Work closely with project managers and site supervisors to ensure EHS compliance on all customer sites.
  • Oversee the EHS aspects of subcontractor management and customer interactions during commissioning projects.
Training and Development
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS training programs for all employees, including safety orientations, job-specific safety training, and ongoing EHS education.
  • Ensure that employees, contractors, and site personnel receive training and certifications as required by company policies and regulations.
  • Lead EHS training sessions and toolbox talks at both the manufacturing site and project sites.
Incident and Emergency Management
  • Lead investigations of all EHS-related incidents, near misses, and property damage occurrences.
  • Manage the company's emergency response plan, ensuring preparedness for fires, chemical spills, electrical incidents, and other emergencies.
  • Establish and oversee emergency evacuation procedures, and act as the lead contact for emergency services in the event of an incident.
Data Management and Reporting
  • Monitor, track, and analyze EHS performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and present regular EHS reports to senior leadership, outlining safety initiatives, audit results, compliance status, and incident investigation outcomes.
  • Oversee the maintenance of EHS documentation, including safety data sheets (SDS), equipment inspections, and training records.
Support of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Initiatives
  • Collaborate with the company's ESG leadership to align EHS strategies with overall sustainability and corporate responsibility goals.
  • Develop and execute environmental initiatives that contribute to the company's sustainability objectives, including carbon footprint reduction, energy efficiency projects, and waste minimization efforts.
  • Support social responsibility programs by ensuring that the health and safety of all employees, contractors, and stakeholders are prioritized in line with company values.
  • Contribute to the development of the company's ESG reporting, providing data and insights on environmental and safety performance metrics.
  • Lead initiatives that improve the company's governance of EHS compliance, fostering transparency and accountability in safety practices.
  • Promote a diverse and inclusive work environment through equitable safety practices and support of community engagement programs as part of the company's ESG commitments.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, Occupational Safety, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive EHS experience, with at least 5 years in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other relevant safety and environmental regulations.
  • Experience in commissioning or construction environments, with an emphasis on electrical safety.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar certifications are highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead safety programs, conduct audits, and engage employees in a culture of safety.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to managing EHS risks and challenges.
  • Willingness to travel to customer project sites as needed.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in electrical product manufacturing or commissioning.
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies as they relate to safety.
  • Proficiency with EHS management systems and safety tracking software.
