Job Description

Tehachapi Cement, LLC is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Manager to oversee and manage environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and the environmental performance of our Tehachapi plant operations. This position requires expertise in environmental regulations, leadership skills, and a proactive approach to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and safety in environmental practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Environmental Management System: Manage and oversee the environmental management system (EMS) across the plant operations, ensuring all environmental programs are implemented effectively and in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Evaluate and ensure continuous environmental compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Implement corrective actions as necessary to resolve compliance issues, and conduct regular environmental inspections of the facility.
  • Environmental Sampling and Monitoring: Oversee all environmental sampling, monitoring, and reporting activities, ensuring timely completion of permit renewals, record retention, and adherence to environmental regulations.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary company liaison with regulatory agencies. Advocate for the company's environmental interests, ensuring effective communication and addressing environmental concerns or violations.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure plant safety policies and MSHA/OSHA regulations are adhered to by conducting required safety inspections and promoting a safe working environment.
  • Project and Budget Management: Plan and implement projects to meet environmental requirements, manage the plant’s environmental budget, and ensure resources are allocated effectively.
  • Training and Development: Develop and deliver training to plant personnel and contractors on relevant environmental issues, regulations, and company policies, ensuring continuous professional development.
  • Environmental Permit Administration: Administer the plant’s environmental permits, including managing associated fees and ensuring all necessary renewals are completed on time.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support EHS audits and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through data analysis to drive continuous improvement and ensure workplace safety.
  • Environmental Advocacy: Assist in the planning and execution of facility upgrades and new projects to meet environmental standards, ensuring timely permitting and regulatory compliance.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the overall success of the environmental management system.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in an environmental role with specific focus on air and water quality regulations, preferably within industries such as mining, cement, aggregates, power plants, or petrochemical.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong knowledge of environmental laws and regulations affecting cement manufacturing and related industries, including compliance with MSHA/OSHA standards.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with environmental management systems, SAP, emissions monitoring, and other environmental monitoring software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) is required.
  • Leadership and Communication: Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with plant teams, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Regulatory Expertise: A high level of knowledge in federal, state, and local environmental regulations and a proven track record of ensuring compliance within operational environments.
