William Paterson University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, 10-month position of Instructor of Special Education / LDTC in the College of Education, Department of Special Education, Professional Counseling and Disability Studies. Position starts August 15, 2025.

The Department of Special Education, Professional Counseling and Disability Studies offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees and programs. Specifically, the Special Education program offers endorsements and degrees designed for educators who wish to enhance their careers with endorsements related to the provision of special education for students with identified disabilities. Reporting to the chair of the department, this instructor will teach master's level courses in the M.Ed in Special Education, specifically courses leading to the endorsement for the Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDTC) certification.

The primary responsibility of this role will be to teach ten courses annually (30 credits) and coordinate the programs for the post-masters LDTC endorsement, and the M.Ed in Special Education - LDTC. LDTC program courses are taught in asynchronous online and hybrid formats in 15-week sessions. This faculty member may also teach courses in the affiliated Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TSD) certificate and master's degree programs, which run in asynchronous online, 7-week sessions.

The initial appointment is for a series of one-year contracts over a five (5) year period, with annual renewal based on satisfactory evaluations of qualifications, teaching excellence, effective support of students, and collegiality. Subsequent longer-term contracts may be available based on satisfactory performance and departmental needs.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

Teaching:
  • Teach 30 credits annually of graduate courses, online and hybrid.
  • Provide students with consistent and effective advisement, support and guidance in their academic endeavors.

Service:
  • Coordinate program and work with department faculty on course updates to align with New Jersey Department of Education and professional accreditation guidelines.
  • Attend department and college meetings and participate in activities and events of the department, college, and university designed for student recruitment, retention and graduation.
  • Participate in and contribute to assurance of learning assessment and accreditation as well as curriculum and program development.
  • Serve on department, College of Education, and University committees and councils.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:
  • Standard certification as a NJ Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant
  • Standard certification as a NJ Teacher of Students with Disabilities/ Teacher of the Handicapped
  • Experience as a NJ IEP team member developing and implementing multi-disciplinary IEPs
  • Experience as a NJ public school teacher of students with disabilities in a variety of LRE settings
  • Experience as a leader, mentor, and/or professional development provider on a variety of Special Education topics.
  • Experience in teaching graduate-level courses on a variety of Special Education topics.
  • Experience with online instruction.
  • Experience in using instructional technologies and digital management platforms.
