Job Description

GENERAL TEACHING ARTIST JOB POST
Partnership with Children (PWC) is a nonprofit organization committed to empowering students to reach their full potential and succeed in school, society, and life. We work to provide school-wide critical counseling services, as well as family and community outreach in New York City public schools most impacted by the effects of poverty and trauma. We are one of the city’s largest providers of community school programs and school-based mental health services.
PWC merged with the Center for Arts Education (CAE), an organization that has delivered high-quality arts education programs that nurture the development of social and emotional learning in NYC public school students as a core part of their pre-K to 12 th grade education. PWC’s Arts Education programs and approach are rooted in an understanding of the impact of poverty and trauma on children, a steadfast commitment to antiracism, and expertise in children’s social-emotional wellbeing. We offer ongoing paid training and professional development for our Teaching Artist staff in healing arts, S.E.L, and culturally sustaining practices.
Position Title: Teaching Artist
Start Date: Hiring on a rolling basis
Location: In-person at partnering schools across the five NYC boroughs
Program & Job Description:
PWC is looking for qualified Teaching Artists to work with students across a variety of programs. An ideal candidate will be experienced in teaching their respective art form and expertise in LATIN DANCE to groups of children in a school setting and is either skilled in a variety of art forms or specializes in one art form or style. An ideal candidate is willing to work with PWC staff and schools’ administrations to help determine and design programming that will best fit the needs of the school communities we serve. This listing is not for a specific TA position, but rather for the opportunity to be added to PWC Teaching Artist Database, meaning you’d be on the short list of contacts for relevant opportunities as they arise.
Qualifications:
PWC is seeking motivated, flexible, adaptable, and positive Teaching Artists to join us in facilitating Arts Education programming. The right candidate will:
  • Have at least 2 years' experience as a Teaching Artist in their respective art form and expertise, ideally in NYC public schools.

  • Focus on the intersection of the arts and Social Emotional Learning/Competencies.
  • Possess strong collaboration skills with classroom teachers, other teaching artists, social workers, administrators, etc.
  • Be experienced in lesson planning/creating curriculum for K-12 students.
Requirements:
  • TA must utilize their artistry and pedagogical knowledge to implement an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning that encourages students to engage, create and reflect.
  • TA must be fingerprinted by the NYC Department of Education (PETS Certified) and currently eligible for work in NYC public schools.
  • TA must be willing and available to plan with partner teachers, partner social workers, and/or school staff members, as necessary.
