Join Our Team as a Registered Nurse Lactation Counselor!

Summary:

Are you passionate about supporting mothers and infants on their breastfeeding journey? As a Registered Nurse Lactation Counselor , you will play a vital role in providing expert lactation support and education. Your mission will be to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care, ensuring that every mother and infant receives the optimal support they need.

In this dynamic role, you will:

• Conduct in-person consultations and telephone follow-ups.
• Address lactation challenges and enhance breastfeeding success.
• Collaborate with a dedicated team of healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.

Your Responsibilities:

Patient Education and Counseling:

• Empower mothers and families with knowledge about breastfeeding techniques and infant feeding cues.
• Create personalized care plans that foster breastfeeding success.
• Provide emotional support to help families achieve their breastfeeding goals.
• Document all interactions and care provided, adhering to hospital policies.
• Offer timely assistance to mothers needing follow-up care.

Collaboration and Coordination of Care:

• Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers for seamless care.
• Ensure lactation needs are met during hospital stays and after discharge.
• Follow up with patients to monitor progress and adjust care plans as necessary.

Outpatient Lactation Support:

• Provide individualized lactation support through outpatient follow-ups.
• Assess breastfeeding techniques, infant latch, and overall breastfeeding goals.
• Tackle common lactation challenges using evidence-based strategies.
• Support mothers and infants facing more complex issues.

Training and Education for Staff:

• Assist in training hospital staff to ensure consistent lactation information is shared.
• Promote best practices in lactation care through educational resources.

Program Development and Improvement:

• Contribute to the enhancement of lactation services based on current guidelines.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to boost patient outcomes.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Carry out other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills:

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field preferred.

Experience:

• In-hospital experience preferred.
• Outpatient follow-up care experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of lactation practices and maternal-infant health required.
• Excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
• A collaborative spirit to work within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

• RN License in the state of employment or compact required.
• IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant) certification required.
• BLS certification required.

Work Schedule:

3 Days - 12 Hours
