Job Overview: This Senior Packaging Engineer on the R&D team will be responsible for the development, testing, and commercialization of new or existing packaging solutions for all cold beverage products at KDP. This role on the R&D Packaging Team will focus on the KDP cold beverage business portfolio and is responsible for packaging projects for primary, secondary and tertiary packages. This includes determination of consumer preferred design, performance requirements, setting quality standards, creating packaging specifications and coordinating activities with a range of business partners to ensure flawless execution of packaging projects. This role will support the development of new & existing material technology & packaging formats to deliver against KDP corporate packaging goals. This role requires technical knowledge of PET bottle technology, flexible and paper packaging, and package development processes. Position Responsibilities The Sr. Packaging Engineer in this role will be responsible for supporting packaging development and commercialization of new materials and packaging systems to deliver brand pipeline and KDP sustainability goals. Development of Packaging Briefs, collaborating with Brand & Innovation Marketing. Develop bottle/flexible/paper packaging solutions (primary, secondary and tertiary) with packaging vendors, according to the KDP packaging development process, focused on value and unique experience for the consumer. Responsible for all packaging duties from feasibility to launch phase. Support technical timelines, raising issues and risks and leveraging strong packaging development skills. Coordinate and conduct functional testing including lab testing, plant trials and packaging material qualifications in our production facilities. Develop cooperative working relationships with cross-functional teams. Work with procurement and legal teams on contracts, IP and supplier agreements. Provide procurement and supplier quality departments with advanced level technical support, including vendor selection, capabilities assessment and material qualifications. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in packing engineering or related engineering field. 5+ years of Packaging Engineering experience. Experience in PET, resins, fibers, flexibles, blow molded and compression molded packages, materials/converting methods with both corrugated and plastic containers a plus. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated working experience producing technical documents (specifications, detailed drawings, structural drawings). Excellent computer skills using Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, MS Project. Demonstrated working knowledge of manufacturing packaging equipment a plus. Demonstrated working experience with multi-tasking, prioritizing and managing multiple projects. Ability to travel up to 30% depending on project requirements.
