Job Description

Alderson Loop is seeking a seasoned Systems Engineer to join a project supporting enterprise infrastructure initiatives for a leading payroll and benefits organization. This is a hybrid role requiring strong hands-on experience in server and systems engineering across both on-premises and cloud-based environments. The ideal candidate is someone who can independently design, implement, support, and enhance IT infrastructure, with a practical understanding of storage, networking, virtualization, and system administration.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and support core infrastructure including servers, networking hardware, and storage platforms
• Maintain and grow both on-premises systems (VMware, Nutanix, Cisco UCS) and hybrid/cloud solutions (Azure experience is a plus, not required)
• Manage patching, server health, and backup operations to ensure business continuity and security
• Provide day-to-day system administration, incident resolution, and performance tuning
• Participate in infrastructure upgrades, new solution rollouts, and business continuity initiatives
• Support and monitor Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments; Citrix experience helpful but not required
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess infrastructure needs and implement effective solutions
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and document system health, identifying areas for optimization and automation
• Participate in on-call rotations and provide escalation support as needed

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering or Systems Administration
• Proven ability to independently manage and implement IT solutions with minimal oversight
• Strong hands-on experience with:
• VMware ESXi in clustered environments
• Server hardware platforms, particularly Cisco UCS
• Nutanix or other hyperconverged infrastructure platforms
• Storage management and SAN solutions
• Patch management, backup technologies, and file share operations
• Networking fundamentals, including Cisco switching and routing
• Familiarity with VDI environments and concepts
• Experience with scripting or automation (PowerShell, Batch, or similar)
• Excellent troubleshooting and prioritization skills in fast-paced environments

Preferred Qualifications:

• Exposure to or experience with Azure or other cloud platforms
• Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, or infrastructure-related certifications
• Familiarity with monitoring tools, security best practices, and infrastructure documentation
