The Role of a Field Technician

A field technician in the Wastewater Division of CM Contractors installs, maintains, and troubleshoots water treatment and distribution systems. They play a crucial role in ensuring clean water supply, focusing on preventive maintenance and problem resolution to uphold the reliability and compliance of water infrastructure, thereby safeguarding public health and the environment.

Qualifications for a Field Technician

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Clean driving record
• Prior training in the water treatment industry or a related field
• Class 2 certified minimum
• Class 3 or 4 preferred
• Maintenance experience
• Equipment operator experience preferred
• A field technician must be physically fit and able to perform manual tasks including lifting and moving equipment and materials.
• Being able to successfully work as a team is essential as well as a strong attention to detail and safety awareness in a field environment. 
• Must be able to pass pre-employment Drug & Alcohol Screening

Field Technician Tasks and Responsibilities Include: 

A field technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the proper functioning and maintenance of water-related infrastructure. Their responsibilities may include:

• Installation and Maintenance: Field technicians are involved in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water treatment and distribution systems, including pipes, pumps, valves, and meters.
• Troubleshooting:  
  Field technicians diagnose and troubleshoot issues with water systems, identifying and resolving problems such as leaks, blockages, or malfunctions in equipment.
• Field Inspections: Conducting regular inspections of water facilities, pipelines, and equipment to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with standards.
• Recordkeeping: Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and any repairs performed.
• Equipment Operation:  
  Operating and maintaining construction equipment, dredge units, and various equipment like pumps, filtration systems, and chemical dosing systems.
• Emergency Response:
  Ability to work in varying weather conditions and adapt to changing work schedules when necessary. Being prepared to respond quickly to emergencies, such as leaks, spills, or equipment failures to minimize damage and ensure the safety of the water supply. 
• Safety & Compliance with Regulations:  
  Ensure that all work performed adheres to CM Contractors of LA Safety Program and comply with local, state, and federal regulations related to water quality and distribution.
