Job Description:
SUMMARY
Consultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, in order to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Consultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, in order to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writers
* Teaching in a one-on-one setting is integral to the position, although there is no requirement for teaching beyond the duties of the Writing Center
* Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
* Master's Degree from an accredited college or university (English degrees preferred)
* Demonstrated writing consultation experience in a tutorial or instructional setting
* Experience working with community college students
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
* Possess working knowledge of writing concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to apply to varied situations
* Ability to explain concepts to others effectively
* Ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success
* Ability to work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds
* Possess patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment
* Possess strong organizational and time-management skills
* Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
* Ability to foster a team environment and work collaboratively
* Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail
* Possess excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships
