Job Description

Genetic Counselor III – UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center Job Summary The UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center provides multidisciplinary medical and supportive care to patients and their families with cancer. The genetic counselor works closely with medical providers to evaluate patients and families at high risk for hereditary cancer. The role participates in research and teaching objectives, tracks data, reports outcomes, and may lead grant‑writing and performance improvement initiatives. A genetic counselor III candidate will have experience co‑managing a clinical sub‑service of the Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program or at least 5 years of experience in cancer genetics and the demonstrated ability to function independently. Location San Francisco, CA – Mission Bay (SF) Full‑time, fully on‑site, 8‑hour days, Monday‑Friday Responsibilities (derived)

  • Provide genetic counseling to patients and families at high risk for hereditary cancer
  • Collaborate with medical providers to develop personalized care plans
  • Participate in research projects, track data, and report outcomes
  • Lead grant‑writing and performance improvement initiatives as appropriate
  • Function independently in a clinical sub‑service of the Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program
Required Qualifications Computer skills and basic statistics knowledge Strong written, oral communication, and people skills Able to create and deliver professional presentations from slides Consultation skill in oncology; carry a pager to respond to the consult service across all clinical programs Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or the American Board of Medical Genetics Masters Degree in clinical genetic counseling California Genetic Counseling license Preferred Qualifications Oncology background preferred 1‑2 years of clinical experience Salary Range $59.14 – $90.22 per hour (subject to additional approvals based on UC policy) Benefits and Compensation Full benefits package available; total compensation to be discussed during interview.
