Job Description The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Volunteer Services Program provides opportunities for individuals and groups to enhance City of Raleigh parks, greenways, programs, special events, and facilities. Our Vision is to bring people to parks and parks to people. With volunteers, Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources will expand its resources, develop diverse community partnerships, and provide a great place for Raleigh Citizens to live and play. This position reports to the Resource Development Manager and will assist the Volunteer Services Coordinators with the management of volunteers, and the facilitation of park maintenance and special event volunteer opportunities. The position will promote volunteer opportunities and recruit volunteers to make an impact in City of Raleigh Parks, greenways, programs, facilities, and special events. This position has the unique opportunity to work in any of our 220 parks or 120 miles of greenway depending on the volunteer projects.
This position will require frequent Saturday morning work and has a flexible weekday morning schedule for a total of 19 hours a week. Volunteer projects mostly run Wednesday - Saturday 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. We do occasionally have special events that run outside these hours. There may be times where this position works evenings depending on special events.
Duties and Responsibilities - Conduct on-site volunteer training and supervise volunteers participating in volunteer opportunities
- Motivate volunteers to accomplish project goals in a fun and safe way
- Promote Raleigh Parks and teach volunteers about how their work connects to our overall mission
- Assist with the management of volunteer databases and paperwork
- Prepare online volunteer event postings in the online volunteer registration system (CERVIS)
- Assist with developing partnerships through community outreach efforts
- Contribute to special projects as assigned
Typical Qualifications - Experience managing and supervising volunteers
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Effective planning and organizational skills
- Proven ability to multi-task and successfully work on multiple projects at one-time
- Experience with database management and reporting
- Proven ability to maintain good working relationships with a variety of people and groups
- Possess excellent communication, leadership and time management skills
- Highly enthusiastic, energetic, motivated, creative, and reliable
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook Suite (outlook, excel, Word, SharePoint, OneDrive, Forms) Preferred experience with CERVIS, ArcGIS, Access, and GovDelivery)
Education and Experience - High school diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree or degree seeking in recreation, communications, marketing or related environmental field preferred
- 1 year of related experience in marketing, community relations, parks and recreation or related field
ADA and Other Requirements Position typically requires: climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both outdoors and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment). Position requires frequent work on weekends to supervise volunteer projects
